Bridging Cultures: activities for intercultural competence development
Two keys to successful intercultural training are to be authentic and interactive. Materials need to be based on real life experience and relevant to your specific target group. A high level of interactivity ensures that, whether you are working online or face-to-face, the participants are fully engaged in their learning.
This workshop aims to help participants extend the range of activities they are familiar with and able to use in intercultural training and teaching. The target group is intercultural trainers for business and teachers of undergraduate and postgraduate intercultural courses for business students. Newcomers to the field are particularly welcome.
The session will be in three parts:
- An experience exchange in which participants share examples of their best practice.
- Activities for intercultural training including perception and reflection exercises, critical incidents and cultural moments, case studies, games and role play.
- Developing intercultural competence beyond formal training with toolkits and learning ecosystems.
The workshop will be based on my practical guide to working across cultures Bridge the Culture Gaps – a toolkit for effective collaboration in the diverse, global workplace published by Nicholas Brealey in 2021. A signed copy of the paperback version is included in the price.
